The use of plastic bags will be banned in the TRNC from June 2023, light handleless bags will be exempted from this practice.

The Council of Ministers announced a decision to ban the use of plastic bags as of June 2023.

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the use of paid and free plastic bags is completely prohibited.

It was also stated that very light handleless plastic bags will be exempted from this practice.

The decision, which will enter into force six months later, included the following statements:

“It is forbidden to provide any kind of plastic bags with handles (paid or free) to the consumer.

It is forbidden to be included in any promotion or campaign that allows its free supply.

Very light handleless plastic bags are exempted from this practice.”
