Liability measures for driving under the influence of alcohol have been tightened in Northern Cyprus
The authorities of Northern Cyprus remind drivers of the current norms of alcohol content in the blood and responsibility for their violation. According to the current rules, the permissible alcohol level is strictly limited, and fines are directly linked to the minimum wage.
Acceptable standards and sanctions 0-50 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood (up to 0.23 mg/l)
The violation is not recorded, an oral warning is applied.
50-100 mg per 100 ml of blood (0.23–0.47 mg/l)
A fine of 50% of the minimum wage in Northern Cyprus (before taxes) is imposed.
100 mg per 100 ml of blood and above (over 0.47 mg/l)
A fine of 100% of the minimum wage (before taxes) is provided.
Safety is a priority
Representatives of the traffic services emphasize that even a small excess of the permissible alcohol level significantly reduces the driver’s reaction speed and increases the risk of traffic accidents. Special attention is paid to night checks and controls in tourist areas. Drivers are strongly advised to completely abandon driving after drinking alcohol in order to avoid not only fines, but also a potential threat to their own life and health, as well as other road users.
