Getting to Northern Cyprus will now be easier: the TRNC has its own airline
On March 13 this year, the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the TRNC, Erhan Arikli, announced that Northern Cyprus is launching its own airline, Cyprus Airlines (Fly KHY). It is worth noting that the name Cyprus Airlines is used for promotional purposes, and the officially registered name is Fly Kıbrıs Havayolları (KHY). The location of the project is Ercan Airport, 20 km from Nicosia. The airline will make its first flight on April 16.
he official said that Fly KHY received permission to fly from the Turkish carrier Freebird Airlines. Fly KHY will start with 75 weekly flights to a total of three Turkish destinations:
Izmir;
Ankara;
Istanbul.
Northern Cyprus plans to increase the number of flights from the island. So, there is already an agreement with two airlines to start flights from Ercan via Antalya to Russia. In addition, it was stated that FLY KHY is planning charter flights to Northern Cyprus from Erbil, Tehran, Pristina, Amman and Baku from May 21st.
Kıbrıs Havayolları is a privately owned company established by local tour operators under an agreement with Freebird Airlines in Turkey. Arıklı said that the state does not have KHY shares. According to the minister, it is planned to launch another TRNC airline for flights to Antalya in May.
Northern Cyprus today is one of the most popular countries in the Mediterranean region in terms of buying property, tourism and even moving to permanent residence. The mild climate, security, the British education system, modern medicine, the ease of obtaining a residence permit and registering a business attract more and more interested guests from all over the world to the TRNC. The opening of its own airline will undoubtedly increase the attractiveness of the country for investors and tourists.
We recommend taking the opportunity to buy real estate in Northern Cyprus at the lowest prices in Europe so far.
