Лидери две кипарске заједнице поново су потврдили своју спремност да крену напред у проналажењу решења за кипарски проблем
The leaders of the two Cypriot communities reaffirmed their willingness to move forward in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. At a recent meeting, Tufan Erhurman, leader of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, confirmed their intention to actively participate in the settlement process and make a practical contribution to this dialogue.
Both sides agreed to maintain constant contact with the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holgin, and intend to participate in the next round of informal discussions. These meetings are aimed at exchanging ideas and identifying possible steps to further advance the negotiations.
Tufan Erhurman presented to the Greek Cypriot leader a package of his proposals, including practical measures that can strengthen trust between communities without the need for major political concessions. Among the proposals are initiatives in the fields of transportation, trade, energy, as well as the organization of joint technical committees.
Nikos Christodoulides noted that although this meeting was not an official stage of negotiations, it was held in a constructive and frank manner. According to him, its results create the prerequisites for the resumption of formal negotiations within the framework of the United Nations, starting from the stage at which they were interrupted earlier.
International observers also assess such contacts as a positive signal: regular discussions on practical issues and the willingness of leaders to work together can gradually revive the process of resolving the protracted conflict.
